The goal of the project was to optimize a production Defender to withstand even the toughest long-distance travel under extreme conditions. The route: Overland to Mongolia

The route led from Central Europe via Poland , Ukraine and Russia , then through the endless expanses of Kazakhstan and the rugged landscapes of Siberia .

The Defender reached the capital, Ulaanbaatar , via Mongolia's less developed northern route . After further stages via Mandaal Gobi and Mongolia's southern routes, the return journey began – also entirely overland.

A route that puts the chassis, drivetrain and vehicle structure under strain: endless corrugated iron tracks, deep river crossings, difficult mud passages, extremely fine sand and temperatures ranging from -10 °C to over +40 °C placed the highest demands on man and machine.
